Hi everyone. I want to start eating like I will have to eat after I have my gastric bypass surgery. Is there anyone that can tell me some foods I could buy that I will be able to eat. To be honest, I hate vegetables. I know that I need to try to eat them though so also if anyone has any good recipes they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it. If anyone wants my email addy to send me some recipes, it is [email protected]  Oh one more thing, does anyone know how long it takes to get approval when the insurance is medicaid? Thanks everyone!!!!

Start using a salad plate
I am a year out and eat anything, no specifics, I just make sure I have sufficient protein (21g per meal) and then a few carbs!! There is a recipe forum on here that has ALOT of good recipes and also this gal name Michelle aka Eggface, has an AMAZING blog full of recipes!!

Hi Em,

I would say that like Jami, I eat just about everything; however, now it's in moderation. If you look at the pie chart that comes up on www.mydailyplate.com you would see that I have about 40 percent protien, 30 percent carbs and 30 percent fat. If you haven't started tracking your intake yet, you might do so. I think you might be amazed if you actually track everything you eat. Try doing it for a week just as you normally eat. Then you can try to make some adjustments. The likelyhood is that your current diet is probably heavy in carbs, then fats, then protien; so now, it's probably upside down from where you will want it to be eventually. I'm not really talking about immediately post op, but when you get a year out or so. Immediately post op you are VERY HEAVY on protien and low on just about everything else.

I would say that the 'Southbeach Diet' is probably closest to what I was eating once I was a month out from surgery and during the whole time I was losing. I still try to do that type of thing and imagine that if I ever need to peel off a few pounds that, I'll do it again more strictly.

You can find a bunch of recipes on southbeach.com, I also really like cookinglight.com. You can find WLS friendly recipes if you google 'eggface'. she has a great blog filled with recipes and you'll probably find some that you will really like.
